| Large parts of the world’s cultural and scientific heritage are under-explored. Individual researchers with new and original ideas often have difficulty getting financial support if their work doesn’t fit into a conventional institutional framework, or is too risky to be able to guarantee results. And yet, many of the advances which have benefited mankind in the past have come from the insights of inspired individuals rather than the planned efforts of large institutions. |
